Constant Cravings

I've always loved to read though I rarely read one book at a time.  Since my tastes are eclectic I've usually got a collection of essays, an in-depth study of one thing or another, and something lighter, like a Stephanie Plum caper all going simultaneously.  I need variety as much as I need mental stimulation.  I liken it to watching a good juicy drama followed by an enjoyable sitcom.  You go where the mood takes you.

I've described the romance I write as popcorn, though a friend of mine calls these types of books puff pastry.  She's French, what can I say?  You know when you pick one up it's going to be enjoyable and hit the spot but it isn't exactly nourishing.  Still, we all have our cravings right?  The romances I gravitate towards give me an emotional kick.  They're light, fun, often addicting.  As long as you don't try to survive on them why not indulge?

Books offer so much - be it information or stimulation.  You know what to reach for at any given moment depending on your mood.  So after you've fed your head, take a break, relax on the couch and reach for the popcorn.  Don't be afraid to enjoy this fat free treat without guilt.  You've earned it.
